REGISTERED NEBULA ZOOM SEQUENCES Pillars of Creation, narrow and wide Webb fields NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI; Joseph DePasquale, Anton Koekemoer, Alyssa Pagan. https://science.nasa.gov/asset/webb/pillars-of-creation-nircam-image/ https://science.nasa.gov/asset/webb/pillars-of-creation-nircam-compass-image/ Full NASA original 8423 × 14589 pixels, reduced to 2365 × 4096 for playback. Full field width approximately 8 light-years; the narrow view is a registered crop [0.12,0.14,0.80,0.48] of this same image, width 6.4 light-years. This is a small region inside the larger Eagle Nebula, not its complete extent. Cosmic Cliffs, narrow and wide Webb fields NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI. https://science.nasa.gov/asset/webb/cosmic-cliffs-in-the-carina-nebula-nircam-image/ https://science.nasa.gov/asset/webb/cosmic-cliffs-in-the-carina-nebula-nircam-compass-image/ Full NASA original 14575 × 8441 pixels, reduced to 4096 × 2372 for playback. Full field width approximately 16 light-years; the narrow view is a registered crop [0.30,0.25,0.38,0.53] of the same observation, width 6.08 light-years. This field shows part of NGC 3324 rather than the entire Carina Nebula. Both Webb observations map infrared wavelength bands to visible colours. Crops, scales and positions preserve exact registration within each shared-photo pair. Eagle Nebula wider optical context Credit: ESO. https://www.eso.org/public/images/eso0926a/ https://www.eso.org/public/outreach/copyright/ ESO Wide Field Imager optical B/V/R mosaic. Original field 32.08 arcminutes across. Using 6500 light-years consistently with Webb yields approximately 61 light-years across the observed square. The reduced ESO frame is rotated 2.570045 degrees clockwise with black corner padding to align it to Webb; the resulting square image frame spans approximately 63.59 light-years. This does not change the scientific structure. The transition changes from Webb near-infrared assigned colours to ESO optical colours; different wavelengths show different dust opacity and stellar populations. Webb WWT astrometry: RA274.72992785796°, Dec−13.85173905846°, reference pixel (645.649340590126,1109.5602253268844), y measured from bottom of the proportional 1280px-wide frame; scale0.1974554404875 arcsec/pixel, rotation182.56461230281°. Before rotation, Webb footprint centre in ESO = (0.4558248596,0.6644483588), width fraction0.1313270261, rotation−2.5700453168°. After registration, footprint [x,y,width, height] = [0.3877640427,0.5465254843,0.1257987603,0.2178888892]. Pillar tips and prominent stars were visually checked against the optical frame. Registration is a local tangent-plane approximation; rounded catalogue astrometry and different wavelength morphology limit precision. DNA double helix Space-filling 3D rendering from PDB 1BNA heavy-atom coordinates. Structure authors: H.R. Drew, R.M. Wing, T. Takano, C. Broka, S. Tanaka, K. Itakura, R.E. Dickerson (1981). https://www.rcsb.org/structure/1BNA Data DOI: 10.2210/pdb1BNA/pdb. Experimental method: X-ray diffraction, 1.90 Å resolution. Orthographic rendering uses measured coordinates and conventional van der Waals radii; colours and lighting are illustrative. Hydrogen atoms absent from this coordinate model are not fabricated.
